Almería gets ready for the Mediterranean Games 2005
The Stadium of the Mediterranean Games is the emblematic sports facility of the 15th Mediterranean Games Almería 2005, celebrated in Almería in the summer of 2005.
The new Olympic Stadium consists of eight athletics tracks and stands distributed on four levels, with a capacity for 22,000 spectators and completely covered.
The eight race tracks are equipped with synthetic pavement of red stabilized polyisoprene rubber. The lanes are attached to the central rectangle of natural grass with dimensions suitable for high level competition football and other large field sports. Outside the racing tracks, a space is available to accommodate the lanes and pits for jumps and provide space for group, security and informative activities.
The central field and tracks level has been projected below the natural terrain, in depression, obtaining a significant protection against the wind.
As a whole, the modern appearance emphasizes the criteria of comfort and functionality. Likewise, the design includes measures that combine functionality with respect for the environment and energy and water savings, such as the depression of the Stadium to minimize the impact on the landscape, installation of solar energy to cover part of the hot water demand and recovery of irrigation and rain water for irrigation.
