Title:
Study and Experimental Development of Containment Alternatives for Non-Competent Breakwaters
Objective:
Analysis of the use of non-competent breakwaters as slope retaining walls that allow the use of materials located in the proximity of the works in progress, establishing a working model aimed at stabilizing these materials.
Description:
This Project has been developed in collaboration and cooperation between the Innovative Entities:
- Construcción Sánchez Domínguez, SANDO, S.A..
- URCI Consultores, S.L.
The materials to be used as a breakwater on slopes are not always available for the works to be carried out in certain areas. This means that either different solutions have to be adopted or, in other cases, a long transport distance is required from a quarry with the appropriate material, thus raising the costs and decreasing competitiveness.
Other times, there are quarries near the work area that provide the material with the required diameters, but their properties do not comply with the necessary Technical Specifications.
In view of this situation, the Project carries out a study and experimentation to identify alternative methodologies to improve the processes and application of these materials by adapting their use to the terrain, applying the corresponding layers and obtaining lasting levels of stability in areas prone to water filtration.
To this end, the application of these non-competent materials is proposed by means of a novel methodology in the execution of breakwater walls, derived from experimental processes on site for their use on unstable slopes as a support.
The application of this Project has been used in the Slope Treatments in the A-48 Highway and in the N-340 road, both in the Province of Cadiz.
