Hydraulic improvement and environmental protection of Jaén’s riverbeds

The project includes environmental recovery actions in the rivers Guadalimar, Ranera, Toya-Quesada Viboras and San Juan, as well as an intervention at the foot of the Giribaile dam and the demarcation of the public domain of a section of the Ranera river near Valdepeñas de Jaén, where flooding problems occur. In particular, the following actions are carried out:

• Environmental improvements in the river Guadalimar in the municipalities of Siles, Puerta del Segura, Puente de Génave, Sorihuela del Guadalimar and Arroyo del Ojanco.
• Leakage correction project in the Giribaile dam on the river Guadalimar.
• Riverbed recovery and environmental restoration of the Viboras and San Juan rivers, municipalities of Jaén.
• Actions for environmental improvement and projection of the Vega del Río Guadalimar area from the Giribaile dam to the mouth of the Guadalquivir.
• Riverbeds recovery and environmental restoration of Huerta del Soto stream, Barranco de la Peraleda and Fuente de La Peña de Huelma stream.
• Project for the recovery of the riverbed and environmental restoration of the Toya-Quesada river
• Actions of hydrological correction and defense of riverbanks in the Ranera river, in the surroundings of Valdepeñas de Jaén.

The environmental improvements in the Guadalimar river seeks to promote existing riverside plant species, by means of removal of dead feet and accumulation of dry vegetal rest that can represent points of pathological infection, while improving the hydraulic section of the river course, thus decreasing flood risk.
