Replacement of Electrical Substation in Castil de Peones, Burgos

The project includes the replacement of the Castil de Peones Electric Traction Substation, including both the civil work and all the electrical installations that need to be carried out.

The new substation, located in the municipality of Quintanavides, at km point 405+700 on the conventional railway line Madrid – Hendaye, is supplied by a line owned by ADIF that connects the different substations of the 45 kV section, which this facility transforms into 3,300 V of direct current.

The installed power in the new substation is 6,000 kW (3,000 + 3,000 kW), as two transformer-rectifier groups with a nominal power of 3,300 kVA are installed with protection through circuit breakers and current transformers.

A low voltage transformation is also planned to supply auxiliary services at the traction substation, for which a 250 kVA Auxiliary Services transformer is installed.

The substation is managed through a distributed control system using PLCs. The protections of all the equipment are managed by a PLC that manages the protections. The control system is operated by a Centralized Control Station. The substation is remotely controlled from the Miranda de Ebro Central Station, and can be put into local control at any time for service requirements.
