Bypass road to Abra de Ticlio (4,818 m above sea level)

The work consists of drafting a feasibility study for the upgrading of a 70.5 km stretch of road. Two alternatives are proposed in the study. Alternative 1 considers the execution of a flexible pavement for the whole project within two years, for 20 years of service. Alternative 2 considers the execution of a rigid pavement.

The road’s cross-section consists of two lanes 3.6 m wide each, 2.60 m emergency lane and 0.50 m compact widening.

The pavement standard section for alternative 1 consists of 10 cm hot asphalt, variable sub-base between 15-30 cm and 15 cm base.

The design of 7 bridges is carried out, including one up to 160 m long over the Blanco river, and 3 tunnels with a total length of 3.7 km, as well as slow lanes on the uphill sections.

The upgrading of road design includes the necessary road safety measures according to the characteristics of the road and the expected type of traffic, incorporating braking lanes to be used by the large number of heavy vehicles that use this corridor.
