Madrid Southern Arc expands its Capacity
The purpose of the project is to improve the capacity of the M-40 semi-urban highway on the section between the end of the Supesur link, km point 22+300, and its link with the A-5, km point 31+000, of 8.7 km in length.
For this purpose, the central roadways of the trunk are partially extended, side roadways or collecting roads are created on both sides with over 8.6 km each and about 5 km of connecting roads. Also, 11.6 km of branches and lanes between the existing links are created and modified, and 5 existing links with minor roads and 4 interchanges with the A-42, R-5, M-45 and A-5 highways are remodeled.
It is worth noting the complexity of the remodeling of links, which connect with 8 transversal roads and cross another 4 access roads. All this involves the design or extension of 38 structures: a 305 m long viaduct, a 421 m long roof structure for noise reduction, 2 pedestrian walkways, 30 overpasses and underpasses and 45 walls with a length of 11 km.
The project includes the replacement of all affected services (supply, sanitation, electricity and communications), road safety equipment and corrective measures to minimize the environmental impact.
