The East of Medellin has a Connection Alternative

The work carried out consists of an audit to analyze the Feasibility Study of the Dual Roadway of the East, which consists of the implementation of a new road corridor that has an approximate length of 13.8 km connecting the Aburrá Valley and the San Nicolás Valley, allowing communication between the city of Medellín and the municipalities of the East.

The track will have geometric characteristics for a design speed of 80 km/h, where a minimum radius of 230 m will be projected in plan and in elevation gradient limited to 10%. The standard section will be composed by two roadways, one in each direction, with a central separator of variable width. Each roadway will be composed of two 3.65 m lanes, outer shoulders of 1.80 m and inner shoulders of 0.50 m.

The private initiative pursues the Construction, Operation and Maintenance of the so-called «Dual Roadway of the East» that enables the connection between Las Palmas in Envigado and El Tablazo in Rionegro. Among the works to be developed, the project includes the elaboration of the final studies and designs, financing implementation, environmental, property and social management, ending in the reversion of the road to the Province of Antioquia.

The planned design in the Feasibility Study contemplates a total of 24 bridges of 4 different typologies, which are as follows: Steel girder bridges, reinforced girder bridges, post-tensioned girder bridges and progressive cantilever bridges.

The collection system planned in the Concession consists of a trunk toll with two-way charging where 100% of the traffic using the infrastructure will be paid.
