New wastewater treatment plant in Almer\u00eda<\/h3>\r\n

The wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) of the Almer\u00eda Metropolitan Area East was built in 2001-2003 as part of the actions planned for the development of the 15th Mediterranean Games of Almer\u00eda in 2005, with the purpose to treat the wastewater generated by the \u00abVilla Mediterr\u00e1nea\u00bb, where judges, athletes and other Games participants were accommodated, as well as by other urban centers of the Almer\u00eda Metropolitan Area East (La Ca\u00f1ada, El Alqui\u00e1n, University, Costacabana, Airport, Retamar and El Toyo).<\/p>\r\n

The new wastewater treatment plant is designed with a capacity to treat 13,000 m3\/day, which may be expanded to 19,500 m3\/day, equivalent to a population of 52,000 and 75,000 inhabitants respectively. <\/p>\r\n

It also consists of pre-treatment (fine clearing, sieving and sand removal-degreasing), biological treatment (prolonged aeration in oxidation channel, secondary decantation, recirculation and sludge extraction), tertiary treatment (pumping to filtration, closed filtration on sand bed, ozonization and treatment with sodium hypochlorite) and sludge treatment (thickening and dehydration by centrifugation).<\/p>\r\n
