Ecological, social and cultural optimization of the Canal of Castile<\/h3>\r\n

The Canal of Castile is one of the most emblematic hydraulic engineering works constructed in Spain. Built in the 18th and 19th centuries, it is a 208 km long artificial canal that was declared of Cultural Interest in the category of Historical Site by the Regional Government of Castile and Le\u00f3n on June 13, 1991.<\/p>\r\n

This intervention’s purpose was to use the linear structure of the Canal of Castile to chart an axis of ecological, social and cultural exploitation that crosses this large area, known as Tierra de Campos, deforested centuries ago for agricultural transformation. <\/p>\r\n

To do this, the margins of the canal are restored in those points where they were very deteriorated, by building breakwater walls and palisades. Unstable slopes in areas of uneven layout along the canal are improved, towpaths are reconditioned and the canal is demarcated to delimit the public domain.<\/p>\r\n

In addition, forest restoration is carried out by means of selective clearing, clearing of existing vegetation and planting of tree and shrub species that are typical of the existing river ecosystem, as well as the creation of 3 urban parks in the characteristic town centers that are passed by the Canal.<\/p>\r\n
